In the studio’s direct neighbourhood are quite some possibilities to find a good and cheap meal. 300 m away you will find a (take-away) pizzeria and a few km further are more restaurants, including the renowned Sikfors Herrgard and the splendid Maltidens Hus.

In the centre of Hällefors, less than 500 m from the building, you will find excellent supermarkets with very reasonable prices. Next to the super market is a self banking. Sweden is member of the EU, but not a Euro-country. 10 Swedish crones (SEK) is about 1 Euro.

Hällefors is a village, not a city. But yet big enough to have a lot of shops. There is no night life, there are no cafés. The Documentary Group (producer of Swedish TV programs) has an excellent coffee bar. People who are involved in the local art and design world meet here with an excellent espresso. In the centre of Hällefors you will also find the Formens Hus. The design museum opened at the end of 2005 and contains a very extensive design collection. European artists are very welcome to visit this museum and its interesting library.

Not far from our building passes an attractive canoe route of 200 km. Canoes can be rented nearby. You can even prepare a trip of several days and arrange a pick up at the destination point. We rent out bikes to our guests. Nearby there are many gravelled paths along inclining fields and forests. They are marvellous cycle paths.  In our neighbourhood are several national parks (to us almost the whole village looks like a national park). There are at least 400 lakes, some of them with excellent  little beaches and few visitors. So when coming to Sweden, there is plenty of possibilities to be active.

In Hällefors it is quite difficult to find specific artist materials. Larger cities as Karlstad and Örebro are both approximately 80 km away. Therefore we suggest to bring your own materials to Hällefors or send us a package addressed to your own name.
